something chill
Hey everyone. We’re back! Took a quick break last week, but never fear, we’re still here to spam you.
It’s cold outside now. It sucks. The snow is pretty, sure, but after two days it just turns into gross slush, and if you forget to take off your boots when you walk into your room then you end up tracking that shit all over your floor and then your socks get wet when you step in it and it’s just terrible. Cold is not cool.
But, huddling inside away from the cold—managing the stress that comes with the end of the year and the lack of sunlight—we all need something to kick back and unwind to while we sip our peppermint mochas and bundle up under our blankets. We have some ideas.
Here’s something chill.
“trigger protection mantra” by jhené aiko
"Trigger Protection Mantra" is a healing meditation song that soothes listeners instantly. Jhené Aiko's voice echoes the words "calm down" and "protect your energy" while alchemy crystal bowls, harps, and percussion are played in the background. The song was written by Aiko with the intention of granting spiritual healing to her fans.
The song is perfect for this time of year. As we struggle to get grades up before winter break and spend our days sprinting after the bus to avoid walking in the cold, there seem to be fewer and fewer moments to take a step back and relax. "Trigger Protection Mantra" calms every muscle in your body and clears your mind instantly.
The music video takes the song a step further, and places the listener in a trance with trippy visuals and shots of Jhené Aiko making giant bubbles on the beach. It is impossible to put this song on and still feel the stress of your upcoming exams and papers. Take a moment for yourself and give it a listen.
cbd oil

If you didn’t grow up in a town with five different vintage coffee shops like most of the team here at something, you probably haven’t experienced the phenomenon of CBD Oil. It’s kind of like THC’s younger, much more presentable brother. Unlike THC, which in high doses will simplify your thought process to “what is the next thing I should say to sound like a normal person right now” (or so we’ve heard), isolated CBD oil issues a more relaxing effect throughout the body.
Not only does CBD help release all the tension that you’re holding, but it’s actually been proven that CBD contains a number of additional health benefits. When used topically, it provides pain relief for sore joints and muscles. Other benefits include anxiety reduction and, for cancer patients, it helps lessen cancer-related symptoms.
But we want to be clear, CBD doesn’t get you high. You’re not gonna throw a bottle of CBD oil down the hatch and then watch Wizard of Oz set to Dark Side of the Moon. The supplies for that journey will be legal in January.
“it’s not me, it’s you” by grandma
Wow shocking, another music suggestion from something! All jokes aside, this song is really solid. There aren’t many songs that strike a balance between relaxing and invigorating. “When’s the last time you went on a bender?” Grandma, a lo-fi pop artist from Atlanta, sings over gentle synths and crooning horns. Add the Redbone-esque screams in the background and, not to make you blush, you’ve got a pretty sexy song here.
The track comes from Grandma’s debut, Even If We Don't Get It Together, which includes tracks that feature Rico Nasty and Father. He’s weird and groovy and chill. Check it out.
Sorry this one was a lil shorter. We’re not going anywhere though, don’t worry. If you enjoyed, please share it with your friends and tell them to sign up! We’ll be back next week. Peace.
